Thank you for looking at my profile. My name is Kate and I run my own private therapy clinic called The Lorem Clinic. I have advanced clinical training in psychotherapy and my passion is offering a safe space to people to help them become more self aware and have the capability to think and feel emotions with clarity and understanding. My absolute founding principle is kindness. I believe that fundamentally everyone is OK, a very Transactional Analysis belief and all should be treated as so. No one knows what journey anyone has had to get to where they are in front of me as a therapist. I practice warmth, concern and care and believe compassion requires courage and strength. I have a non-judgmental and empathic nature.

My training has predominately been in Transactional Analysis which is one of the most widely recognised modalities of psychotherapy aimed at promoting personal growth and change. It was devised by Dr Eric Berne in the 1950s with a focus on a new psychological model that put the client centre stage in their recovery and took away past psycho-babble language to make it easier to understand. It is a theory of personality and communication that helps us to understand who we are and how we came to be the person we are. Transactional Analysis is a therapeutic model for positive change and personal growth. In simple terms it is the study of how people take on certain patterns of behaviors, unconsciously from their early caretakers or authority figures and then continue to play them out in their adult lives. It is a model for people to use to work towards ‘autonomy’, a place from where they can choose to live the way they want to and not to be still acting as if they are controlled by past events or messages. I aim to create an open and transparent atmosphere when in therapy so you feel comfortable. My main concern is what do you need in the here and now. The relationship between you and me is of the utmost importance and helps in the therapy room to create strong boundaries that ultimately hold you so you can safely explore your journey. I believe each person I see is an individual so the therapeutic approach will be tailored to your personality and presenting need. But the most important part I feel is the bond and attachment created between the therapist and the client, between you and me. This is built with you and is the most important factor in effecting positive change. It is built on non-judgement and with a real understanding of the presenting issues and your history. I believe it to be an equal relationship where each individual brings their own expertise, you are the expert on you, and we work together on a journey to effect positive change for you. Therapy will be led by you within a safe environment so difficulties can be worked through with care and always confidentially.

I have worked with vulnerable young people and adults for over ten years and trained as a psychotherapist seven years ago. I was previously a counsellor in a sixth form college with students aged 16-19 and have a wealth of experience with adolescents and young people from dealing with cyber bullying to anxiety over exams to eating disorders. I have also worked as a therapist in a substance misuse centre alongside the concerned others of addicts. I have helped them work through the pain of seeing a loved one who is suffering and how to carve their path out in life. I am now the school counsellor at Bohunt Secondary School in Horsham as well as running a private therapy clinic in West Sussex and Hove. I see adults, adolescents and teens. My particular passion and specialty is teens, anxiety and depression.
