Rebecca’s relationship with movement and the body began at the age of 4 when she attended her first dance class. Movement was then to play a significant role in her life for 20 years. She completed senior level training with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance before her curiosity and interests shifted towards the mind and human experience in context. Her early 20’s focused on training and practice in clinical cognitive western based approaches to human stress and distress and understanding the social and inter and intra relational dynamics which can prolong these. Having completed training in psychology and social work, Rebecca spent the next 15 years working alongside people who have experienced trauma and stress in their lives. Her interests then turned to combining cognitive ‘top-down’ approaches with somatic based approaches and she was drawn towards the work of Peter Levine, Stephen Porges, Bessel Van Der Kolk and the work of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment led by David Emerson and Jenn Turner. Currently Rebecca runs Somatic Sense Brighton offering therapeutic somatic practices in the recovery of trauma. Rebecca offers a free 30 minute consultation to discuss your individual needs and for you to determine if she may be someone you would like to work alongside. Therapeutic somatic practices offered include TCTSY and somatic experiencing techniques. Sessions last 50 mins and a sliding scale payment scheme is also available. Feel free to get in touch to discuss your situation further.
