How can I help you? Has something happened recently to throw you off balance or have you been carrying something that has been troubling you? Maybe you are experiencing problems in your relationships, in how you respond to those around you, or in how you feel about yourself. Perhaps you feel lonely or isolated. You may not want others to worry, think they misunderstand you, or a critical voice gets in the way of sharing how you feel. You may be struggling with an earlier or recent bereavement or be carrying a sense of loss in other ways - regarding a relationship, for who you are or have become, or on behalf of someone else. I can support you with anxiety, feeling low or depressed, if you have low self-esteem, have experienced a bereavement, loss or trauma, have relationship difficulties or family problems, or struggle with a sense of belonging and identity. In addition to these concerns, I am interested in the passing on of family trauma, its history, and related trans-generational issues, as well as problems which arise from social and cross-cultural expectations and differences.

In our sessions, I will listen to what you bring with respect, care, and compassion. You may currently feel stuck and be unsure of how to feel better. Sharing will bring a sense of relief and provide an opportunity to untangle your thoughts and reflect on what has happened, how you view yourself and how you relate to others. I will be gently curious about your memories and the experiences you have had - our emotional responses and ways of relating in the present can often be traced back to earlier times - I will help you to explore and make sense of these connections, at your own pace. You are an expert on yourself, and I will be led by you. During our sessions, I will get to know you and you will find out about yourself through our relationship. We will work together to notice and understand patterns of thinking and behaviour that may no longer be helpful to you, represent who you are or would like to be. What happens next? If you decide to email me, I will get back in contact to arrange a suitable time to call you. During this 20 minute phone call, which is free, you will be able to tell me a little more about what has brought you to counselling and I will answer any questions that you may have. If you want to continue, we will arrange an initial consultation.

I have a background in further education teaching and pastoral work. I have worked as a low-cost therapist and with students at a University Counselling Service. Alongside my private practice, I teach accredited counselling courses to adults.
